Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our content, skincare advice, and how we work.

About our content

Is your skincare advice medically approved?

Our content is research-informed and written to reflect current dermatological consensus, but it is not a substitute for professional medical advice. If you have a diagnosed skin condition — such as eczema, rosacea, acne vulgaris, or psoriasis — we strongly recommend consulting a qualified dermatologist before following any routine.

How do you decide which products to recommend?

We evaluate products based on their ingredient lists, formulation quality, value for money, and independent user evidence. We do not accept free products in exchange for positive reviews. If a product is gifted for testing purposes, this is always disclosed clearly in the article.

How often is your content updated?

Skincare science evolves quickly. We review and update articles when new research is published or when product formulations change. Publication and last-updated dates are shown on every post.

Do you publish sponsored content?

We do not publish paid-for editorial content. Any commercial relationship — including affiliate links — is transparently disclosed. Our editorial opinions are never influenced by brand relationships.

Skincare questions

What skincare routine should a complete beginner start with?

Start with three steps: a gentle cleanser, a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen (morning), and a basic moisturiser. Once your skin is stable on this routine — usually after 4–6 weeks — you can introduce actives like niacinamide, retinol, or vitamin C one at a time. More products is not better. Consistency is.

Can I use multiple active ingredients at the same time?

Some combinations work well together (niacinamide + hyaluronic acid, for example). Others can cause irritation or reduce efficacy (retinol + AHA/BHA in the same step, for example). We have detailed layering guides in our Skincare section. As a rule: introduce one new active at a time and wait two weeks before adding another.

Does expensive skincare actually work better?

Not consistently. Price in skincare is driven by packaging, brand positioning, and marketing — not always by formulation quality. Some of the most evidence-backed ingredients (niacinamide, retinol, ceramides, hyaluronic acid) are available in affordable formulations. We always include budget alternatives in our product guides.

How do I find out my skin type?

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat dry, and wait 60 minutes without applying anything. Then observe: if your skin feels tight and flaky, it leans dry. If it looks shiny all over, it leans oily. If it is shiny only in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) but dry on the cheeks, it is combination. If it feels comfortable with no visible shine or dryness, it is normal. Skin type can also change with seasons, diet, and age.

AI beauty tools

Are AI skin analysis tools accurate?

It depends on the tool. Some apps use clinically validated algorithms and can identify patterns associated with dehydration, pigmentation, or barrier damage reasonably well. Others are marketing gimmicks. We test each tool independently and publish detailed accuracy assessments in our AI Tools section.

Is my skin data safe with these apps?

This varies significantly by app and region. We review the privacy policy and data handling practices of every tool we cover. Look for apps that are transparent about whether your photos are stored, used for model training, or shared with third parties.
